National and International News Current Affairs.

1. India got 41st position in Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Democracy Index-2023. Norway, New Zealand and Iceland topped the index, while North Korea, Myanmar and Afghanistan took the bottom three spots.

2. ISRO successfully launches next generation weather satellite ‘INSAT-3DS’ from Sriharikota, This satellite was sent into space by GSLV-F14 rocket. The INSAT-3DS satellite will enhance meteorological services.

3. Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be the chief guest at the 9th Raisina Dialogue. The theme of Raisina Dialogue 2024 is – Chaturanga: Struggle, Competition, Cooperation and Creation. This dialogue was started by Ministry of External Affairs from 2016.

3. 16th conference of World Social Forum started in Kathmandu, Nepal

4. NASA and Jaxa will launch the world’s first wooden satellite ‘Lignosat Probe‘.

5. Japan successfully launches next generation H3 rocket.

6. Second private American moon lander ‘Odysseus’ launched from SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. American Private Company ‘Intuitive Machines’ becomes the world’s first private company to successfully touch down on the Moon, Intuitive Machines’ Nova-C lunar lander/Odysseus – the first fully robotic lander developed in the US to touch the Moon since the Surveyor 7 spacecraft in 1968.

7. Migratory Conservation Conference (CMS COP14) held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Its slogan was “Nature Know No Seema” and the mascot was snow leopard. The 13th Conference (COP), Gandhinagar has been held in Gujarat. A new, science-based Samarkand strategic plan initiative for migrant species for a period of 2024-2032 has been taken in this conference.

8. BPCL will set up the country’s first green hydrogen plant at the Kochi airport, BPCL has announced to construct and operate a 1,000 kW green hydrogen plant inside the Cochin International Airport.

9. The INDUS-X Summit, a joint effort between India and the United States in defense innovation, will be held in New Delhi on February 20-21, 2024.

10. Malta becomes 119th member of International Solar Alliance. ISA was conceptualized on the sidelines of the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Paris in 2015. ISA Secretariat is in Gurugram, Haryana.

11. Arunachal Pradesh becomes the first northeast state to achieve 100% coverage under ‘Har Ghar Jal scheme’.

12. Union Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the country’s first Skill India Center in Odisha.

13. Tripura becomes the first north-eastern state to start universal health cover.

14. Dubai launches 5-year multiple entry visa for Indian tourists.

15. The Union Cabinet has given its approval for the establishment of International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA). It includes 96 big cat range countries and other organizations of the world. Its headquarters will be in India. The government has approved assistance of Rs 150 crore for this. It is a common platform for the conservation of the seven big cats like tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, cheetah, jaguar and puma.

16. Country’s first semiconductor fab to be built by the Tata Group in collaboration with Powerchip Taiwan. This semiconductor fab will be established in Dholera, Gujarat.

17. Regional office of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) will be opened in Chandigarh.

1. Rajasthan government launched Chief Minister Vishwakarma Pension Scheme.

Awards Current Affairs.

1. Jagatguru Rambhadracharya and lyricist Gulzar will be honored with 58th Jnanpith Award. Jagatguru Rambhadracharya will be awarded the 58th Jnanpith Award in Sanskrit and poet Gulzar for Urdu.  This award is being awarded every year since 1944 for excellent contribution in Indian literature with cash prize of 11 Lakhs, a statue of Vagdevi and a citation. This award can only be awarded to an Indian citizen. The award is also awarded in English along with other languages mentioned in the Indian Constitution (8th Schedule). Shri Rambhadracharya is the head of Tulsi Peeth in Chitrakoot.

Sports Current Affairs.

1. India’s women’s badminton team created history by defeating Thailand 3–2 in a tough final in Selangore, Malaysia on 18 February 2024, winning the gold medal of the Badminton Asia Team Championship. China won the men’s gold medal. PV Sindhu, Gayatri Gopichand-Tresa Jolly and Kishore Anmol Kharb won their respective matches, winning the final 3–2 in Shah Alam.

2. Second edition of Women’s IPL League started in Bengaluru.

3. World’s Highest Frozen Lake Marathon – Bhagwan Singh and Mahesh Khurana from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh have completed the Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon 2024 held in Leh-Ladakh. This marathon is celebrated as the ‘World’s Highest Frozen Lake Marathon’.

Military Exercise Current Affairs.

1. Multinational military exercise ‘Shanti Prayas IV‘ started in Nepal. Military personnel from 19 countries including India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Thailand will participate in it.

2. 12th Edition of Naval Exercise MILAN-2024 held at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh on 21 February 2024. The navies of countries including the US, Japan, Australia, France, Bangladesh, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia are participating in the 12th edition of the ‘Milan’ exercise.

3. Trilateral exercise ‘Dosti-2024’ of ‘India-Maldives-Sri Lanka’ started in Maldives.

1. Ilham Aliyev won Azerbaijan presidential election.

2. Shahbaz Sharif will be the new Prime Minister of Pakistan.
