India honored with the prestigious Global Measles and Rubella Champion Award by International Committee of the Red Cross. India has been given this award for its exemplary efforts in combating these diseases. Measles and rubella (MR) are vaccination-preventable diseases (VPDs) and part of India Universal Immunisation Program.
Universal Immunisation Program (UIP) – This is Vaccine program launched in 1985 under National Rural Health Program. UIP covers 12 Dieses – TB, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Poliomyelitis, Measles, Hepatitis B, Diarrhoea, Japanese encephalitis, Rubella, Pneumonia (Haemophili’s Influenza type) and Pneumococcal diseases.

Mahtari Vandan Yojana – Prime Minister launched ‘Mahtari Vandan Yojana’ in Chhattisgarh on 10 Mar 2024. Under this scheme, Rs 1000 will be transferred to the accounts of more than 70 lakh women every month.
