National and International News Current Affairs

1. Philippines becomes the first Asian country to ratify ILO’s ‘Violence and Harassment Convention at Work (190)’. The Philippines has become the 38th country in the world to ratify this Convention No. 190.

International Labour Organization – Established by the Treaty of Versailles in in 1919 and in the year 1946 it became the first specialized agency associated with the United Nations. Its headquarters is in Geneva, Switzerland. And Present Head is – Gilbert F. Houngbo (Togo).

2. FATF excluded UAE, Uganda, Barbados and Gibraltar from its monitoring list.

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Watchlist, also known as the “Grey List”, is a roster of countries that the FATF considers to have deficiencies in their anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing regimes. FATF Established in 1989 at the meeting of G-7 countries held in Paris.

Its secretariat is based at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) headquarters in Paris. Iran, North Korea and Myanmar are three countries blacklisted. India Joined FATF in 2006 as observer and full time member from 2010

3. 5 New AIIMS – Inaugurated by PM at Rajkot (Gujrat), Rae Bareli (UP), Kalyani (W. Bengal) and Manglalagiri (Andra Pradesh).

PM also inaugurated National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN) named ‘NISARG GRAM’ at Pune, Maharashtra and ‘Central Yoga and Naturopathy Research Institute‘ (CRIYN) at Jhajjar, Haryana.

4. India’s first Gati Shakti Research Chair will be established at ‘IIM Shillong’. Earlier, the country’s first Gati Shakti University was established in Vadodara, Gujarat in the year 2022. This Chair will build knowledge on multimodal logistics development strategies and practice in the North-Eastern region. Gati Shakti Yojana was launched in Year 2019

5. Mobile World Congress-2024 was held in Spain. 

6. Per capita monthly expenditure in rural area is Rupees 3,773 and 6,459 in urban areas as per the latest Consumer Expenditure Survey released by NSSO.

7. First US-India cyber security initiative launched in Pune, India.

8. India’s first human spaceflight mission, Group Captain Prashant Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla were also awarded ‘Astronaut Wings‘ by the Prime Minister.

9. India’s ‘IFFCO’ got first place among the top 300 cooperative societies globally for the year 2021. This ranking is based on per capita turnover/GDP. Top on the rank co-operatives on different fields are:- First Agricole, France & REWE Group, Germany, Second Amul, India and Third Sistema Unimad, France.

10. IFFCO (Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative) was established on 3 Nov 1967, its HQ is in Delhi. Dileep Sanghani is the Present Chairman of IFFCO.

11. The world’s first Vedic clock will be inaugurated in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

12. Adani Group unveils South Asia’s largest ammunition and missile complex in UP Kanpur.

13. PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Sikkim’s first railway station in Rangpo.

14. Global Intellectual Property Index 2024 – India got 42nd position in GIP Index out of 55 Countries. This is the 12th edition of this Index. The top countries in the index were the United States (1st), UK (2nd), France (3rd), Germany (4th) and Sweden (5th).

15. Jagannath Dighi Waterfront Development Project- Launched by Telengana State.

16. Peru declares health emergency due to widespread dengue.

17. PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of ISRO’s second spaceport in ‘Kulashekarpatnam’, Tamil Nadu.

18. Mauritius becomes the first country to join Jan Aushadhi Initiative.

19. According to the report on the “Status of leopards in India”, Madhya Pradesh (3907) has the highest number of leopards followed by Maharastra (1985), Karnataka (1879) and Tamilnadu (1070).

20. VSHORAD – DRDO successfully tested a very short distance air defense system ‘VSHORAD’. Vashorad is a portable air defense system, which has been designed and developed in the country itself. It will be used to neutralize low -altitude air threats at a short distance.

1. Geeta Batra – First Women from developing nations to lead World Bank’s Environmental Evaluation Office.

2. Elisa de Anda Madrazo (Mexico)  has been named the new chairperson of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Mexico will preside for 2 years.

3. Justice Ajay ManikaroNew Lokpal of the India. President Draupadi Murmu has appointed him along with six members. Lokpal provision has been made in the Lokpal and Lokayukta Act, 2013. First Lokpal in the world was appointed in Sweden in the year 1809.

4. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, has become the first Indian citizen to receive the knighthood of ‘Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by King Charles III of Britain.

Sports Current Affairs.

1. Ravichandran Ashwin became the highest wicket -taking bowlers for India in Tests.

2. Indian squash player Abhay Singh wins ‘Goodfellow Classic PSA Challenger Tour’ in Canada.

3. India won a total of 18 medals in Thailand’s BWF Para Badminton World Championship 2024 which held in Pattaya, Thailand. 18 medals including three gold, four silver and 11 bronze. List of Winners are :-

  • Krishna Nagar – Gold Medal (Men’s Singles)

4. Namibia’s John Nicol scored the fastest century in T20 International in 33 balls against Nepal.  Earlier, the record of the biggest century was held in the name of Nepal’s Kushal Malla in 34 balls.

5. India got 18 medals in the Asian Track Cycling Championship 2024 held in New Delhi. 18 medals includes 9 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze. Malaysia finished on top with 37 medals.

1. Savera Program – Haryana launches “Savera” program for early breast cancer detection.

2. ‘Mission Utkarsh‘ – Ministry of Women and Child Development and Ministry of AYUSH launch ‘Mission Utkarsh’ initiative to control anemia among adolescent girls (14-18 Years) through Ayurvedic interventions in five Aspirational  districts (1st Phase). This Districts are Dhubri (Assam), Bastar (Chattisgarh), West Singhbhum (Jharkhand), Gadchiroli (Maharastra) and Dholpur (Rajasthan).

2. ‘Swayam Plus‘ platform – Union Minister of Education & Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan launched SWAYAM Plus platform.  This platform is used by working professionals should participate using the SWAYAM platform as a vehicle and avail the multiple-entry-multiple-exit benefits of NEP2020.

1. National Science Day 2024 celebrated on 28 February across the country to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect. The theme of this year’s Science Day is ‘Indigenous Technology for Developed India’. On 28 February 1928, CV Raman announced the discovery of the Raman effect and for this he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930. The Government of India designated 28 February as National Science Day in 1986.
